The Definition of a Serial Killer is someone who kills 3 or more victims over a period of time. Typically the profile is of a white male aged between 25-35 with an average or above average intellect. There may be a pattern to the killings and a similarity with the chosen victims.

To understand why they kill we must look back to their childhood. They are likely to come from a dysfunctional family involving physical and or sexual abuse. They may be loners who have difficulty in maintaining relationships. The motivation of Serial Killers is not clear cut. Their need to kill is born from fantasy and a need to dominate. The power fuels them on and until caught will continue to kill.

Sometimes they will revisit the crime scene or take trophies from the victims. This enables them to relive the act many times over. Serial Killers have always held a fascination with the public and the media.
